BUSINESSMED Closing Event of the Employers Thematic Committees

BUSINESSMED Closing Event of the Employers Thematic Committees

1/12/2021

Since the creation, in 2018 of the three Employers Thematic Committees we have seen important changes and shifts within the Mediterranean region and business ecosystem. The past two years especially have impacted our economies and businesses, who had to adapt to the upcoming challenges and demands, to ensure business continuity.

These challenges and shifts we are facing, have also increased the relevance of the topics put forward by the employers. On one hand, we have seen how Innovation and Energy technologies have been put at the forefront of not only the economic recovery, but also looking ahead to find sustainable business solutions. On the other hand, these innovations imply also a more important focus on vocational training to bridge the skill mismatch issued by the latest advancement and digitization of our economies. Finally, the role of women has become more and more central, along with youth, as they are considered the future engines of the Mediterranean and African economies, hence our focus on the importance of gender mainstreaming and their empowerment within SMEs and businesses.

These themes have also been put at the forefront by other institutions and organizations. Overall, these efforts of the international partners make the studies and reports issued within the employers' thematic committees of increased relevance.

In this sense, BUSINESSMED, in the framework of the EBSOMED project, is organising the Closing Event of these Employers' Thematic Committees on 1 December 2021, in Milan, Italy.

The focus will be on the presentation of the final regional reports and will promote exchanges between employers on the topics, thus laying the foundations for the launch of a second phase of the Committees:

  • Present the regional reports and factsheets of the Thematic Committee on Gender mainstreaming & Women Empowerment, Education and R&D on Energy Technologies and Skills development & Vocational Training
  • Share information and facilitate peer learning (policymakers, providers, the private sector) in the Euro-Mediterranean Region
  • Share Employers experiences on approaches in gender mainstreaming, upskilling, and reskilling of the workforce and research and development in the field of energy technology
  • Lay the ground for the next phase of thematic committees and identifies challenges ahead in the region
